Lurch

Synopsis: 'Lurch'

Time appears to stand still in this extraordinary place. In the Berlin Natural History Museum's labyrinth of rooms, the remains of the fanatical research zeal of bygone times are preserved in alcohol: thousands of snakes, frogs and other amphibians. The unemployed Kuno Nieff (Chajim Koenigshofen) is given the Sisyphean task of topping-up the alcohol which constantly evaporates from the countless jars. His repulsion at the preserved animals is lessened as he knocks over a vessel by accident, dousing himself with its contents. Nieff discovers that the liquids emit a fine bouquet: each amphibian has a palatable flavor, each frog is a fine tipple. Unexpectedly, the scientific arsenal of reptiles becomes a gourmet paradise of the highest order. The collection comes alive, and gradually pulls him under its spell, until Nieff himself finally becomes an immortal part of it.
