Pedal

Pedal is a feature length independent documentary about New York City bicycle messengers. It was literally filmed on the streets to the city and crafts a look into this often unnoticed subculture. Pedal takes the viewer to the streets of New York to get to know the messengers and follows them as they dodge police and pedestrians, weave through traffic, and race against the clock to make a quick delivery. The story line focuses on the life and background of three main characters. This trio of messengers is viewed throughtout a cross section of NYC scenics, indepth interviews and sports footage. The movie, complemented with a pulsating original score, features a myriad of NYC's finest chacters, including the urban army of couriers that weave through the streets, ex-Mayor Ed Koch, taxi drivers, union organizers and the NYPD bike task force. This documentary achieves intense interaction with its subject matter as the filmmaker borrows from experience of shooting for professional skateboard videos to weave through traffic and trail his subjects. This style of filming represents the subjects of the documentary through combined athletic ability and handheld video equipment. Pedal showcases this energetic part of the cityscape in motion, the bike messenger, within an honest, vibrant and urban documentary.
